Marco van den Berg Scholten is the former head coach of the Dutch National Basketball Team. He has been a professional Basketball Coach in the Netherlands and Germany as well as in European Cup leagues from 1988 up until 2021. He is a multiple Championship winner and the first Dutch Basketball Coach to work in Germany’s highest league, the Bundesliga.
He has studied journalism and History at the University of his hometown of Groningen and has always been a writer. All his playbooks –for each new season— he has written by hand, and he has published a textbook on his coaching philosophy “No Prima Donnas” with Tirion publishers in 2011.
In his capacity as NT Coach, he has written numerous columns in national newspapers and media outlets. “In Search of Achilles” is his debut novel.

The author
He was born in Veenendaal on the 14th of June of 1965. His family then moved to Groningen, in the Netherlands, where he grew up. After winning several championships with different clubs in the Netherlands, he became the first Dutch coach in the German Basketball Bundesliga, as a head coach for BBC Bayreuth. Later in his professional coaching career, he became the head coach of German Pro A team Gladiators Trier.
